Spring Magic

Nikki's spell for positivity

Spring Magic

Okay, so you might still be wearing your fleece onesie and thinking about your Christmas crush, but Yes people, Spring IS in the air . It's time to do some life spring cleaning and there is no better time than now. In the pagan wheel of the year, March is a very special time for honouring the new life starting to emerge from the earth after the depths of winter. Symbolically and psychologically too , it’ s a great time to think about the “new” things you want to bring into your life this year.

So, if you're in the mood for a bit of fun and are ready to say YES to a banging Spring and Summer here’s a simple little ritual you can do to help make the year what you want it to be.

You’ll need:

A small bowl, dish, flower pot, foil tray or other receptacle

Some soil

A few seeds, preferably something easy and quick to grow like cress

A few birthday cake candles and holders

Some scraps of paper and a pen/pencil

A healthy disregard for anyone who gives you odd looks

  1. Spend some time thinking about what new things you would like to bring into your life this year. A new boyfriend and a whole brand new wardrobe might be top of the list, but think beyond the obvious. Do you want to learn a new skill? Reach a new level of understanding with a sibling? Join a new club? Set up a new part time business? Become a new singing sensation? Bring about a new world order? Your hopes and wishes can be as practical or as outlandish as you wish – a healthy mixture of the two is no bad thing. Write them down on small slips of paper and fold them up.

  2. Put a thin layer of soil into your bowl, and then “plant” the wishes you’ve written on those slips of paper. Cover them with most of the rest of the soil.

  3. Now plant or scatter the real seeds, and cover them with a thin top layer of soil.

  4. Water the seeds. D’uh!

  5. Pop the birthday candles into the bowl too – around the edges or making some kind of design – entirely up to you.

  6. Light the candles and spend a moment or two living your dreams in your imagination. Really focus on how happy you will feel when these wishes come true.

  7. Blow out the candles, and put the bowl somewhere safe, where it will get plenty of warmth and light.

  8. As the seeds begin to grow , keep an eye on them (remember to water them!). Whenever they catch your eye, spend a minute or two day dreaming about your hopes and wishes again. Light the candles again for a quick bit of meditation whenever you feel like it. It all helps to attract positive things into your life.

  9. Once the seeds have grown, eat the results if they’re edible. If it’s something non-edible, replant the seedlings outside once the frosts are over, or donate them to a knowledg eable gardener.

That’s all there is to it!
    Oh - a nd don’t fret
if the seeds don’t actually grow. It’s not a bad omen.Well, not unless gardener is high up on your list of future career ambitions , in which case you
might want to have a little re-think….
. This is a ritual designed to focus your mind and intent
and to send out positive vibrations to the cos
    mos. It’s not a test!
