Women we love

Five ladies to inspire you...

Women we love

Andie Walsh - Pretty In Pink

Andie customises her clothing with lace and beading, when she’s not studying with her equally quirky friend Duckie, she’s working in a record shop (how cool). Do it yourself fashion is always fun, especially when customising clothing, it’s the perfect outlet for expressing your own style. Be Andie for a day and wear a totally pink outfit, or an outfit you’ve never tried before, with confidence and individuality.

Hermione Granger - Harry Potter

Hermione makes studying cool, end of. She sticks up for who she is and what she believes in, mudblood and all, and manages to balance her social life/studying time perfectly. Take note and pick up those books in the pile of revision that’s staring at you from across the room.

Lydia Deetz - Beetlejuice

Lydia has the most impressive bangs (fringe) you’ll ever see. She floats around in a carefree manner, photographing the most ordinary of things, finding beauty in what’s usually overlooked. Her outlook on finding beauty in the things we take for granted is something we should all do a bit more. Whether it’s an autumn leaf on the ground or a puddle of mud (even the band), we can be inspired by the weirdest or simplest of things. Give it a try, read a strange book sketch whatever comes into your head or write a short story, it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Cruella de Vil - 101 Dalmatians

Cruella is probably not the best of people to feature on this list however, other than her obsession with real fur you have to admit, she has great hair. Hair is something we all have the urge to experiment with one time or another, so why not get creative? Even if it’s just growing your hair longer or sporting a Lydia Deetz fringe, a new do can really make difference. Alternative fashion trends may appeal to you more so flow with it and explore a new style.

Kat Stratford - 10 Things I Hate About You

Kat is without a doubt the best person on this list of inspirational women. With a great taste in music from The Raincoats to Bikini Kill, she is anti-smoking, expresses her own opinion and isn’t afraid of speaking aloud and presenting in class (something most of us don’t always look forward to). Kat knows what she likes but takes an open mind approach when trying new things. She also gets to kiss Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona, swoon, who buys her a guitar so she can start a band, double swoon. Starting a band is something I strongly recommend you go forth and do even if it’s just you and your mate writing song lyrics with a tambourine.
