Fire, Earth, Air or Water?
What's your astrological element?
Astrological signs are divided into four elements: earth, air, fire and water. A lack of one particular element in your birth chart – and in your life in general – can affect your moods and your well being, but it’s easy to get back in touch with the missing element through this simple exercise.
1. Have a look at this table of signs, and find your sun sign. What element is it? If you know your moon sign and/or ascendant sign, find those too, and note the elements.
Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are FIRE signs
Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are EARTH signs
Gemini, Libra and Aquarius are AIR signs
Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces are WATER signs
2. Cross the element of your sun sign (and moon sign and ascendant sign if applicable) off the list of elements: for now, we’ll assume that you have enough of that/those elements.
3. Look at the remaining elements in this list and see which set of words resonates most with you – your intuition will guide you to the element that it would most benefit you to work on in this exercise.
If you’re lacking FIRE you might want to: be more inspired, have more energy, be more assertive, feel empowered
If you’re lacking EARTH you might want to: be more realistic, make decisions more easily, feel more secure, learn to take things a step at a time
If you’re lacking AIR you might want to: be more logical, communicate better, make friends more easily, get out of a rut
If you’re lacking WATER you might want to: be more compassionate, “go with the flow” better, express your emotions more easily, awaken your imagination
Found the element you want to work on? Good – now just choose from the list of ideas for each element. Pick one which is practical and easily do-able for you today, and one which you can plan to do later on in the week. When you do these things, keep in mind what you want to achieve and ask the cosmos to help you soak up the energy of that element. Have fun bringing some elemental magic into your life!
Fire: sit by an open fire and watch the flames flickering – build a bonfire and feel the heat – meditate on a candle flame – burn incense and really breathe in the smell – turn your face to the sunshine, close your eyes and feel the warmth on your skin – make patterns with a sparkler
Earth: plant something and nurture it – walk through a forest and pick up pine cones – lie on the grass and watch the insects – visit a pick-your-own farm and harvest something – climb a tree and enjoy the view – find some beautiful stones to keep in your room
Air: fly a kite – de-clutter and restore the flow of air energy around your bedroom – become conscious of your breathing for a few minutes – go out on a windy day and feel the power of the air – make and hang decorative air spinners in your home or garden – blow bubbles or dandelion clocks and watch them soar –
Water: dance in the rain – swim – put a few drops of food colouring in a bowl of water and watch them mix – take a shower – listen to the sound of the sea – meditate near a fountain – splash in puddles
